# Leaderboards

{% hint style="success" %}
**Quick start:** Skip ahead to [Creating a leaderboard](https://authic.gitbook.io/authic-product-guide/additional-features/leaderboards#creating-a-leaderboard) ⤵
{% endhint %}

Leaderboards allow you to create monthly competitions that rank customers based on their activity, helping drive engagement through friendly competition. Each leaderboard appears as its own dedicated section in the mobile app.

#### What Leaderboards Do

A leaderboard ranks your customers based on selected activity types, such as:

* Points earned
* Referrals completed
* Minutes played

Customers with higher activity appear higher on the leaderboard, making progress and rewards visible throughout the competition.

#### Benefits of Leaderboards

Leaderboards are a powerful way to motivate ongoing engagement by:

* Encouraging friendly competition between customers
* Increasing repeat visits and participation
* Driving specific actions tied to your business goals
* Highlighting and rewarding your most active customers

They are especially effective when combined with challenges and rewards.

#### Appearance in the Mobile App

When a leaderboard is created, it goes live in the app on the first day of the month. Members appear on the leaderboard as **Anonymous** by default and can choose to create a username and avatar if they wish. This allows members to participate while maintaining their privacy, with only their chosen display name shown on the leaderboard.

In the leaderboard sections, members can:

* View their current rank
* Compare their performance with other participants
* See available prizes and rewards

The leaderboard is displayed as its own dedicated page within the app.

#### Timeframe

Leaderboards run on a **monthly cycle**:

* Activity is tracked throughout the month
* Rankings reset at the end of each month
* New leaderboards automatically start on the **1st of the following month**

At the end of the month:

* Final rankings are locked
* Winners are selected
* Rewards are distributed before the next cycle begins

#### Tie-Breaking Rules

If two or more players finish with the same score, rankings are determined by **who reached the score first**.

**Example:**\
If two players both finish with 200 points, the player who reached 200 points first will be ranked higher.
