# Memberships

Memberships allow you to grant exclusive benefits to a specific group of customers. Unlike loyalty tiers that depend on points or spending, memberships are based on **access** — customers either have the membership or they don’t.

Memberships can be **free** or **paid** and are commonly used for VIP clubs, premium communities, or subscription-style benefit programs.

### Types of Memberships

#### Free Memberships

Free memberships allow businesses to invite specific customers to join a membership program and receive benefits.

Customers cannot join these memberships themselves. Instead, they are **invited by the business**.

Free memberships are commonly used for:

* VIP customer groups
* Employee programs
* Partner communities

Once invited, the customer can access all benefits assigned to that membership.

#### Paid Memberships

Paid memberships are subscription-based plans that customers pay for in order to access benefits.

These memberships run on a recurring billing cycle and are managed through Stripe.

Customers can subscribe to these memberships to unlock exclusive benefits.

Paid memberships are commonly used for:

* Premium loyalty clubs
* VIP subscription programs
* Paid communities
* Subscription-based perks
